Mocking My Body

This post follows on from My Adversarial Body.



While your specific body struggles are unique to you, by sharing mine I hope we can see we are not alone.

My physical ailments are only half the story. I was constantly taunted with ‘beaver’ and ‘groundhog’ regarding my buck teeth. My mother buzzed off my hair for being “too difficult to manage”. Everyone then mistook me for a boy.

Speaking of boys. One said I was “way too butch”. I was 10 years old with no clue what butch was, but I understood the tone.

Psychologically, I understood at an early age my body was something to be mocked.
